Do you feel stuck in patterns you can’t break out of? Are you feeling overwhelmed, anxious or just unhappy? With many years of experience in helping people to overcome negative patterns and emotional difficulties, I can help you to find a new way of relating to yourself and others. I want to help you to get your life back. The approach I use is evidence based and I will tailor the therapy to address the particular areas you need help with. Together we will think about what you are finding difficult, what your strengths are and how we can work together to help you progress towards recovery and to a richer and more fulfilling life.

I have over 15 years experience as a Clinical Psychologist and work with people aged 18 and over. I am an accredited and experienced schema therapist, CBT therapist, and trauma-focused therapist. I am experienced in working with people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, relationship difficulties, personality disorder, low self-esteem, anger management and negative life patterns.
Your therapy with me will provide you with a safe place to make changes to your life, your thinking and how you are affected by events and other people. I will focus on developing a strong therapeutic relationship with you where you will feel safe and comfortable. This will allow you to flourish and benefit from the help I can give you.

Valerie Hartland

Valérie is a Trauma Clinical specialist, a BACP accredited psychotherapist, EMDR Europe Approved and accredited Consultant (Children/Adolescents and Adults) and HCPC registered – Senior Art Psychotherapist and a clinical supervisor.
Valérie is employed by the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust. She works in the Tiers 4 National and Specialist Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services.
Valérie also used to run the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Course for three years at King’s College (University London) and has worked for 4 years as a Senior Lecturer on the MA in Art Psychotherapy (University of Roehampton). She is still a visiting lecturer at Goldsmith University, the Institute of Psychiatry and at King’s University.
Valérie has a small private practice. She specialises in working with children, young people and their families, and adults who have experienced traumas.
Valérie specialises in treating PTSD, developmental trauma, complex trauma and Adverse Childhood Experience using EMDR.
Valérie works in both English and French.
