Tanya Chumak

Physiotherapist

Tanya is originally from Calgary, Canada, and is a former professional ballerina with a fulfilling ten-year career dancing with New York Theatre Ballet and Alberta Ballet. During her time as a professional dancer, she developed a strong interest in injury prevention and rehabilitation, which led her to complete a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology at the University of Calgary.

She later moved to London to pursue a Master’s degree in Physiotherapy and graduated from Brunel University. Tanya has since gained experience in private practice, treating a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and sports-related injuries.

Her background as an elite-level athlete gives her a unique understanding of the physical and psychological demands placed on the body. Having personally experienced several acute injuries, including an ACL tear, she understands the rehabilitation journey from both a clinical and patient perspective.

Tanya enjoys treating a broad spectrum of injuries, with a particular interest in lower limb conditions – especially knee injuries such as patellofemoral pain, ITB syndrome, and post-operative ACL rehabilitation. She has a special interest in working with runners and incorporates running analysis into her assessment and treatment plans. As a former professional dancer, she also offers specialist rehabilitation for dancers, combining her firsthand performance experience with evidence-based physiotherapy.

Tanya is passionate about identifying the root cause of injury and empowering her patients to return not just to their previous level of function, but stronger and more resilient. Although she no longer dances professionally, she enjoys running, weightlifting, and CrossFit. Her confidence in the gym environment allows her to integrate strength training principles and movement technique into her rehabilitation programs.

She takes an individualised, person-centred approach to treatment, believing that exercise is fundamental to recovery. By combining targeted rehabilitation, manual therapy, education, and injury prevention strategies, Tanya aims to deliver long-term, sustainable results for every patient.
