Mummy MOT® in Balham
What to Expect
- A discussion about your medical history, and an in-depth history of your pregnancy, delivery, and presenting symptoms and/or challenges.
- Assessment of your breathing, posture, balance, movement, and strength. This includes performing a series of basic exercises. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing you can easily move around in. Most of the assessment will be completed in your underwear.
- Checking your tummy to see how your abdominal muscles/tummy gap is healing (Diastasis Recti) and to check for any hernias. If you have had a C-section, your scar will be checked. If time allows, the session may also include some treatment, such as scar tissue massage.
- An internal pelvic examination to check for any pelvic organ prolapse, assess your pelvic floor function and to ensure you can perform your pelvic floor exercises properly.
- At the end of the session, we’ll review our findings and go through the exercises that are appropriate for you. Your home exercise program will then be emailed to you, including videos and instructions, so it’s easy to remember and follow.
Postnatal Physiotherapy MOT
A postnatal physiotherapy assessment is a thorough and holistic assessment undertaken by one of our clinicians with further training in women’s pelvic health. It is suitable for women who have given birth both vaginally and via Caesarean. Postnatal physiotherapy can help address concerns around bladder and bowel function, pelvic organ prolapse, perineal tears, abdominal wall and general recovery postpartum.
During your postnatal physiotherapy MOT, your clinician will gather a detailed history of your pregnancy, birth and any symptoms of concern you may have. They will also ask about any goals you have (for instance, returning to running) to help tailor your assessment and recovery plan.
Assessment of your general movement patterns, low back and abdominal wall will usually take place, alongside an assessment of your pelvic floor muscles and any degree of pelvic organ prolapse which can involve an internal vaginal examination with your consent. The findings of your clinical assessment will then help guide your clinician in developing a suitable recovery plan alongside you to help address any symptoms you have and work towards your goals.
A postnatal physiotherapy MOT can be completed from 6 weeks postpartum in most cases, but you can always speak with a member of our team to determine if this is the correct pathway for you.
Many women live with these issues for years. While they are common, they are not normal – and with the support of our expert practitioners, they can often be treated and resolved.

Posted on Google C JBTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Georgie is an outstanding physiotherapist. She has been supporting my mum through her rehab following a knee replacement, and the results have been incredible (also credit to ma for actually doing the exercises she is set!). Georgie has been professional, knowledgable and super encouraging. She explains everything clearly, tailors exercises to my mum’s needs, and has given her real confidence. Thanks to her dedication and expertise, recovery has been swift and doctors can’t believe the range of motion she has already regained. Thank you Georgie for your care and kindness 🤗 (Video is 7 weeks post-op)Posted on Google Matthew PymTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Very good physio.
