Chronic pain is a persistent pain that continues beyond the typical healing time, usually lasting more than three months. Unlike acute pain, which is directly related to injury or trauma, chronic pain often lingers even after the initial injury has healed. This type of pain can be particularly challenging to treat, especially when standard physiotherapy or osteopathy approaches don’t provide relief.
Understanding Chronic Pain
Chronic pain can occur without a specific, identifiable condition, often stemming from musculoskeletal (MSK) issues that aren’t improving with traditional treatments. For instance, lower back pain that doesn’t respond to exercises or manual therapy might indicate that there are other factors at play. In some cases, significant injuries, such as a disc prolapse, simply require more time to heal. However, when pain persists beyond three months—the normal tissue healing period—other factors might be contributing to the pain. Our chronic pain assessment can help to address any surrounding factors to your pain. These factors could include:
- Sleep Patterns
- Nutrition
- Emotional Wellbeing
- Lifestyle Factors
